First Execution

December 29 1701

I do not take rape lightly. It was a virtue that my father bestowed upon me, that all should be treated as equal, woman or man, African or otherwise. One of my friends, a native merchant that owns the General store in town told me that his daughter was raped, and that she left a distinctive scratches along the man's face, before she was beaten unconscious by the man. The man then came in later that evening to drop off his daughter at his doorstep. Saying that "He found her laying behind the store beaten." When he found out what had really happened from his daughter he was furious but he came to talk to me first. His daughter told me the same story. I can not put into words the rage that I felt, and still feel. So I investigated this report, found the man, he was bragging to his buddies how the native "harlot" enjoyed every moment, and the claw marks were out of passion not anger. I took that as a confession. I showed him what happens when you commit a capital offence in my colony. I hung him from his genitals. I didn't even cover his mouth as he screamed in pain. I let it be known to all that this man committed the crime of rape, and if I heard any reports from anybody. The same would happen to them. When his genitals finally tore off from the weight of his own body, I mercifully shot him in his head.

Captain Nathaniel Britannia.
